What is Sold.sg?
Sold.sg is an exciting, innovative and reliable auction website offering new products at great bargains! As the premier lifestyle site, you will find the hottest tech gadgets, hotel stays, travel deals and female must-haves to compliment your daily living.
All auctions start at S$0.00 and all products are brand new & are shipped directly from the relevant suppliers. Each time someone enters a bid, the current price increases by 15 cents and the time remaining increases by up to 20 seconds.
When the timer reaches 0, the last successful bidder wins the right to buy the product at the final auction price (usually at 60-98% OFF the retail price).
“Tokens” are required to bid on the auctions. Each Token costs S$0.75 and can be purchased from My Page.
Registration is fast, simple and free. We will give you 10 free Tokens with your first purchase of any of our Token packs. No credit card information is required.

Observe, strategize and start bidding!
How do I increase my chances of winning?
There's no sure-fire way to win an auction, but we can offer these tips!
- Research the most recent bidders.
On any auction, you can see the ten most recent bidders, how much they bid, and what method they used (manual or automatic bidding). By researching your rivals, you may be able to strategize the timing of your bids.
- Get the most out of automatic bidding!
The Auto-Bidder is very smart! It can help you outbid other users. If other users are using only manual bidding, setting up the Auto-Bidder will increase your chances of winning. A user can instantly follow each manual bid with an automatic one of their own, which may result in the other user giving up!
On the other hand, users often simply leave automatic bidding running, setting their maximum bids at round amounts, like $50 or $60. It may be just as effective to set maximum bids at odd numbers (like $52 or $63).
You can also wait until automatic bids have been used up and time your bids accordingly.
- Bid at the last moment!
In order to win an auction, you must be the very last bidder. Watch the timer and try to bid within the last 10 seconds. At this point, the auction will close soon, increasing your chances of winning.
- Bid at a time when there are fewer users online
The number of users on sold.sg naturally fluctuates over the course of a day. Aim for a time when you think fewer users will be on the site and this may increase your chances of a winning bid.
- Start with low-priced items
We expect auctions with lower price items to have less users participating compared to higher price items. Auctions with fewer opponents offer greater chances of winning.
How can I see the number of Tokens I have used?
The Tokens used in an auction can be seen in
Bidding History, under the Account section of
My Page.
How can I see who has bid in an auction?
The last ten bidders can be seen in the Bidding History column of the auction page.
I have just bid on an item. Why don't I show up as the most recent bidder?
The moment that you bid, you will be the most recent bidder. However, if another user bids immediately after you, that user will then become the most recent bidder. You can view Bidding History on the right-hand side of the auction ? it will show the ten most recent bidders.
Do you manipulate or participate in the auctions?
No, Sold.sg has a strict code of conduct and is committed to providing fair auctions.
We do not use fake or machine bidders. Sold.sg employees and family members are not allowed to participate in the auctions. Please refer to our
Commitment for further details.
Is there a limit on the number of auctions I can win?
Each bidder is only allowed to win a maximum of 8 auctions (of all types available on our site) in 28 days. Auctions include, but are not limited to, Normal Auctions, Free Auctions (including Token Pack Auctions), Beginner Auctions and Manual Auctions.
Note that each bidder is only allowed to win the exact same item once in 28 days (however winning the same item in different colours are permitted), with one exception:-
If we have two auctions with identical items going on concurrently, should you win one of the items, but have also started bidding on the second item BEFORE you have won the first one, you can continue bidding on the second identical auction (and possibly win).
Is there a limit on the number of auctions I can participate in?
Each bidder is only allowed to participate in a maximum of 8 auctions, minus the number of auctions you have won in the last 28 days, at any one time. Auctions are inclusive of all auction types available on our site including, but not limited to, Normal Auctions, Free Auctions (including Token Pack Auctions), Beginner Auctions and Manual Auctions.
Example:
Assume you have won 1 auction in the last 28 days and you are currently not participating in any live auctions, you will have 7 eligible auctions that you can participate in.
Once you start to bid on any live auction, i.e. click BID on any auction, you are considered to be participating in that auction. Even if you do not continue bidding on the item, your participation in that auction will reduce your number of eligible auctions by 1. Your participation in that auction will end when the auction closes.
If you win the auction, you will have 6 eligible auctions remaining that you can participate in.
If you do not win the auction, the number of auctions you are eligible to participate in will refresh back to 7.
You can refer to the top right corner of your screen for the number of remaining live auctions you are eligible to participate in.
How can I review my settings for the Auto-Bidder?
You can review the settings specified for the Auto-Bidder by clicking on “Review Settings,” on the right-hand tab of the Auto-Bidder section.
What is automatic bidding?
The automatic bidding function places bids for you when the price for an item is between the upper and lower limits you set previously, even if you aren't logged in.
- The Auto-Bidder will only kick-in when the time remaining in an auction is less than 10 seconds, so that as little Tokens are used as possible, and the remaining time increases by up to 10 seconds.
- In order to maintain fairness for all users, the Auto-Bidder will kick-in at a random time between 0-10 seconds on the timer.
- If you are currently the highest bidder, the Auto-Bidder will not kick in regardless of your settings. However, this limitation ceases to apply if another user outbids you.
- Tokens not used in automatic bidding (if you successfully make the highest bid, or if the item's price never reaches your lower limit, for instance) are automatically returned to the user.
- The following rules apply to automatic bidding:-
- The lowest number of bids you can set in Auto-Bidder is 2 bids.
- The upper limit must be at least $1 above the current highest bid.
- The upper limit must be at least $0.50 above the lower limit.
- When the price for an item reaches your lower bid limit for automatic bidding, you will no longer be able to edit the Auto-Bidder settings.
What if two or more people set up automatic bidding for the same auction at the same time?
If two or more users set the same automatic bidding upper and lower bid amounts for the same auction, all automatic bids set for that auction will be entered at once.
Should this happen, the bid price for the auction will increase by the total number of automatic bids × S$ 0.15 instantly.
The time remaining in the auction will also increase by up to twenty seconds x number of automatic bids.
Example: The current bid price is S$1, the remaining time is 5 seconds, and the number of total automatic bids is 6.
New Bid Price: S$ 1 + (6 bids × S$0.15) = S$1.90
New Time: 5 seconds + (20 seconds × 6 bids) = 2 minutes 5 seconds

I bid in an auction, but it is not reflected on the item's page. Why?
In rare cases, a time lag between a user's computer and the Sold.sg site can lead to an auction ending without a user's bid being reflected in the auction.
Internet time-lags are usual occurrences. You may minimize the effects if you avoid watching internet video, sending large files, or other activities which use a great deal of data while bidding.
I'm having trouble registering.
To register with Sold.sg, you must correctly enter all required information.
In very rare instances, registration cannot be completed even though information was correctly entered and your computer software is compatible. If this occurs, please
contact us, and include your operating system and browser information. We will resolve the problem quickly.

Because Sold.sg is an internet service, operations may be temporarily suspended owing to damage to Sold.sg's or surrounding systems, or third-party attacks on Sold.sg's servers.
In the extremely rare occurrence, steps will be taken to restart the site: bidding and remaining-time information may be reverted to a point before the downtime, the remaining time may be extended and processes may be restarted from the point of downtime, etc.
Basic Bidding Strategies
Start small
On sold.sg you’ll see everything from USB sticks, to iPads. Some items are worth $50, some are worth over $1,000. As you can imagine, the more expensive items attract the most bidders, which makes them harder to win. So if you’re new to sold.sg, you should go for one of the cheaper items as you’ll have a greater chance of winning, plus you’ll get to learn how sold.sg really works. It just takes a bit of practice!
Go for a Beginner Auction
A Beginner Auction (denoted with an "L" plate) is only open to bidders who’ve never won before, so this is a great opportunity for you to win your first item! Using all of these tips, and your own bidding strategy, you’ll bag a bargain in no time. And who knows, your next win may be an Apple iPad or Sony PS3!
Note: Live Beginner Auctions are only visible to logged in, non winners.
Take your time
This is very important! First, take your time and understand how sold.sg works. Read through our guide and this help section, and browse some auctions. You’ll be surprised how much of an advantage you’ll have by following this simple tip. Secondly, once you’ve found an item you want to bid on, just watch the auction for a few minutes. See who’s bidding, and how much they’re bidding. You need to work out the best time to enter the auction so look at the past ended auctions and you’ll get an idea of how many bids are needed, and what price this item normally goes for.
Make sure you have enough time
If you’re about to eat lunch, or take the dog for a walk, don’t start bidding on an auction! Some auctions will end quickly, but some will go on for a few hours. So if you’re serious about winning an item, make sure you have enough time to keep bidding. However, you could set up the Auto-Bidder to bid while you’re away from the computer!
Focus on one product at a time
This is by far, the biggest mistake made by new users on sold.sg. We offer so many GREAT products that people do not know what to bid on first. So instead, they place a couple of bids on several items all at the same time. It’s great when someone wins an item with just 1 token, but it doesn’t happen that often. Instead of bidding on more than one auction at a time, just choose one and stick with it. You will have a much better chance of winning the item if you take this approach.
Scope out the competition
sold.sg is one of the most competitive sites on the internet. So help yourself by taking the time to know who you’re up against. When you’re watching an auction, spend a few minutes and get an idea of who’s bidding, how often they’re bidding and what sort of strategy they’re using. On an auction page you will see the last 10 bidders of that particular auction.
If you see an auction with lots of different bidders, it’s probably best to find one with less competition.
Bid late, but not TOO late
This is another big mistake made by beginners on sold.sg. If there is an hour left on an auction, don’t bid! This is a golden rule: ONLY BID IN THE LAST 10 SECONDS. You would think that bidding in the last second would be the best approach, but there are a few reasons why this isn’t the case. The main reason is that internet lag may prevent your bid being processed in time. To keep it simple, there are lots of bids placed on sold.sg. We have to process these and perform calculations, update databases, and output the results back to the website, all in a fraction of a second! If a delay occurs anywhere along the way, and you place a bid with just 1 second to go, then your bid may not register, and the auction would end, assuming there are no other bidders. So, to be safe, try and bid when there is at least 3 seconds left on the clock. Alternatively, set the Auto-Bidder, as this will never be affected by internet lag.
Don’t be afraid of the Auto-Bidder
If you look through the ended auctions on sold.sg, you will see that lots of auctions are won by people using the Auto-Bidder. It’s simply because a lot of people love to use it! If you’re bidding on an auction and you spot an aggressive Auto-Bidder, then try not to be put off. You have the advantage because you’re actually watching the auction, and you know what the competition is like. If several single bidders are battling with an Auto-Bidder, then sit back and watch. Save your bids, and jump in when the time is right. Remember: just because they’re using the Auto-Bidder doesn’t guarantee that they will win the auction. If you really don’t like the Auto-Bidder, then lookout for a Manual-Only auctions, where no Auto-Bidders are allowed.
Don’t be afraid of actually using the Auto-Bidder
The Auto-Bidder is a powerful tool, if you get the timing right you can scare off other bidders by placing one. Nobody likes to see their bids matched over and over again by your all conquering Auto-Bidder, you might just persuade them to give up and try again next time.
On the other hand, some people have a ‘fire and forget’ policy with the Auto-Bidder. It is easy to come in and win with a quick single bid if your rival has gone to make a cup of coffee safe in the knowledge that their Auto-Bidder will protect them. We’ve noticed that users tend to set the Upper Limit value of their Auto-Bidder to a round number, so watch out for this and you might be able to snap up a bargain by simply clicking on the “Bid” button when a Auto-Bidder has just finished.
However, we would caution you to read the mechanics of the Auto-Bidder thoroughly, and understand how it works completely before using it. Read more on how the Auto-Bidder works
here.
Keep a price limit in mind
It’s easy to get carried away in an auction when you really want something! But, remember that each bid costs you 75 cents. So you have to bear in mind the current auction price, and how many bids you’ve placed.
Don’t run out of bids
Give yourself a better chance of winning an auction by having lots of Tokens in your account. For example, instead of buying the smaller Token Packs, go for the medium or large Token Packs instead. Not only do you need to make sure you have enough Tokens in your account before you enter the auction, but also during. You would kick yourself if you were in the middle of a bidding battle, and had to stop and buy some more Tokens, only to see that the auction ended! You can help prevent this by following some of the earlier tips, like working out when to bid, how long the auction will run for and roughly how many Tokens it will take to win the item.
Don’t get distracted
If you’re bidding on sold.sg, try not to multitask. Turn off the TV, pause your MP3 player and shut down solitaire. Do whatever it takes to ensure you can really concentrate on an auction!
Pick up some Free Tokens
You can get a friend to sign up to sold.sg, and if they buy a Token Pack we’ll give you some Free Tokens! Refer a friend today!
Tips to reduce bidding/timer lag
We mentioned Internet lag in an earlier bidding tip, which could cause your last second bid not to be registered. On top of that, you may also experience general computer lag, perhaps if you’re running several applications at the same time, or browsing several websites in multiple tabs. Here are some tips to reduce both internet lag, and general computer lag:
- Shut down resource intensive applications.
- Software such as Adobe Photoshop or Apple iTunes can often cause your computer to run slowly, especially if it’s an old laptop or PC.
- Make sure you’re using an up to date Internet Browser. You may be using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari. Whichever browser you use, look for an update button and download the latest version.
- Close any programs that require an internet connection (apart from your browser). For example, close down any torrent applications, stop playing Call of Duty on your Xbox, stop streaming the latest episode of Dexter. This will give you the best possible experience when bidding on sold.sg. On top of this, these are all distractions!
Advanced Bidding Strategies
Auction Sniping
In the conventional sense, ‘auction sniping’ is bidding in the final few seconds of an auction. On sold.sg it’s slightly different, because everyone is bidding in the final 10 seconds.
When we refer to auction sniping, it’s about coming into an auction, and winning with just a handful of bids. There are several ways you could do approach this:
- As the price of an auction increases, it naturally attracts fewer bidders. As this happens, you’re in a better position to potentially win with just a few bids. The end price you pay may be higher than normal, but as it requires fewer bids to win, you’ll still walk away with a bargain.
- It’s all about the competition. If you’ve watched the auction for a while, you will have an idea of how many people are bidding. If you spot just a few bidders, then jump on in.
Aggressive bidding
Although this is not advanced in terms of complexity, is does require an experienced bidder to be confident enough to pull it off. It is also a risky strategy, so proceed with caution.
First, find an auction with little competition, that is free of any Auto-Bidders (a Manual-Only auction is perfect for this). Once you start bidding, try and forget about bidding in the last few seconds. You need to appear as though you have 1,000 bids in your account, and will do anything to win the product. I.e. intimidate the other bidders. As soon as you’re outbid, hit the bid button. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Eventually, the competition will dwindle, and they’ll probably move on to another auction, leaving you to win the auction!
Auto-Bidder layering
The Auto-Bidder can be a powerful tool, as long as you know the rules, so just to refresh your memory:
- You must have a minimum of 2 bids for the Auto-Bidder to be able to bid.
- Your maximum price has to be at least $1 higher than the current end price.
- An unused Auto-Bid can be deleted at any point. All unused bids at the time the Auto-Bidder is deleted will be returned to your account.
The main problem you’ll face when using the Auto-Bidder is getting into a bidding battle with another Auto-Bidder. If this happens, all your bids will be placed instantly and you’ll lose your footing in the auction.
The concept of Auto-Bidder layering is placing just a small number of bids, within a small price range, to test the Auto-Bidder competition. This enables you to make a better decision on which bidding strategy to use. If another Auto-Bidder kicks in, just watch the auction for a bit longer, and let the single bidders compete against the other Auto-Bidder. Repeat this until you’re confident that a Auto-Bidder is no longer active.
The ideal scenario is that you see no Auto-Bidder competition with your initial test, in which case place the maximum number of bids, and begin to intimidate the newer sold.sg users. This is another technique on how to bully your way to success.

The ending time on an auction suddenly increased. What happened?
The end time of an auction can jump suddenly if multiple bidders use the Auto-Bidder. When the Auto-Bidders takes effect, bids can be made simultaneously and the ending time is extended accordingly.
Click here for more information on Auto Bidder.
Where do I go to buy the item I won?
After logging in, go to “My Page” and click on “My Completed Auctions” on the left-hand side to complete the process.
Is there a time limit for purchasing won items?
When you win an auction, you are given 14 days to make payment. After 14 days, you will no longer be able to purchase the item. Please
contact us if you require a longer payment period.
Do items come with a warranty certificate?
All items at Sold.sg are new, and include a warranty. The warranty may be stamped or unstamped. If it is not stamped, the included statement of delivery serves in place of the stamp. Please keep them together in a safe place.
Why can't I use my free Tokens?

Please note that Free Tokens expire in 7 days.
Setting the record straight
We’d like to set the record straight to create greater understanding of how Sold.sg auctions work and also address some common misconceptions about our model.
Myth: Sold.sg employees bid on auctions to keep them going.
Fact: Sold.sg has a strict company policy prohibiting employees, and their immediate family members, from bidding on all Sold.sg auctions.
Myth: Some of the users are fake; Sold.sg utilizes bidding robots to keep auctions going.
Fact: Sold.sg does not employ ANY bidding bots or other software of this type. We do nothing to alter the outcome of our auctions – period.
Myth: Winners at Sold.sg are not real people
Fact: Sold.sg has conducted many auctions that argue to the contrary. Every Sold.sg auction is won by a registered Sold.sg user.
Myth: Sold.sg makes obscene amounts of money on every auction.
Fact: We are a business and are in business to earn a profit. Our business is one where some auctions generate high profits, but many of our auctions do not.
